Job Description

Role Summary:

The Assistant Accounting Manager will be responsible for assisting the Finance Manager with the development of the financial accounting department strategy and plans, to promote success and growth while maintaining legal financial and accounting practices.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Finance Manager in developing and implementing the Financial Accounting department’s strategy, objectives, and operational plans.
  • Assist in drafting, updating, and implementing financial policies, procedures, and internal controls, while ensuring proper day-to-day application by the Financial Accounting team.
  • Execute monthly, quarterly, and annual closing activities for multiple entities, including preparation of schedules, supporting documents, accruals, and reconciliations.
  • Provide hands-on guidance and support to junior team members, review their work, and assist in resolving accounting and operational issues when needed.
  • Prepare and review journal entries, reconciliations, payment orders, and other accounting transactions to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
  • Develop, maintain, and enhance financial tools, templates, reports, and trackers for various finance functions, including Accounting, Financial Control, Reporting, Banking, and Analysis.
  • Assist in preparing annual budgets, forecasts, and financial models for entities and departments in coordination with relevant stakeholders.
  • Prepare, review, and analyze periodic financial statements, investigate budget variances, and provide recommendations and actionable insights on significant fluctuations.
  • Perform financial reviews and support internal and external audits by preparing schedules, reports, reconciliations, and supporting documentation, while highlighting discrepancies and recommendations.
  • Manage and oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including data entry, processing, reconciliations, transfers, account maintenance, and closing activities, while providing operational support as needed.
  • Perform account clean-up activities and ensure proper allocation and settlement of receivables, payables, and intercompany balances.
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with banks, auditors, service providers, and internal stakeholders, and follow up on operational and financial matters.
  • Liaise with external auditors, regulators, and other third parties by preparing and providing required financial information, reports, and supporting documents.
  • Lead and actively participate in process improvement initiatives within the Accounting department to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and workflow effectiveness.
  • Prepare and submit ad-hoc financial reports, analysis, reconciliations, and management information as requested.
  • Perform other finance and accounting duties, projects, and operational tasks as assigned by management or required by business needs.

Education, Experience and Qualifications:

  • Bachelors’ Degree in Finance or related fields. Masters’ Degree is a plus. CPA is a plus.
  • English and Arabic, French is s plus.
  • MS office (specifically Excel). Sage experience is a plus.
  • 5 to 7 years of experience in Finance or Auditing.
  • Knowledge of Accounting and Finance principles.
  • Knowledge of IFRS.
  • Financial Modelling.
